This week is the official “Chicken Fried Steak” week in Texas!
You can find any day of the year in the United States that’s dedicated to something. You have “National Hair Day”, “National Doughnut Day”, “National Get Out Of Bed Day”, and even a “National Shower With A Friend Day”. With all those frivolous national days the fact that Texas devotes an entire week to the chicken fried steak speaks volumes to the pride we take in our fried foods. I plan on sampling many more chicken fried steaks as I make my way around Texas. I haven’t seen all of it yet and there’s a pretty good chance I never will, but I enjoy sampling chicken fried stakes as I can. So far I’d have to say Mary’s in Strawn and LuLu’s in San Antonio.
The big bonus of eating a chicken fried steak at LuLu’s is that they’ll wrap up one of their 3-pound cinnamon rolls for you to take home and enjoy for days to come. They’re not picky about when you visit them either because they’re open 24/7.
