Anybody that’s ever worked with software or website programing has broken something at one time or another. Most of it’s minor but occasionally you can break something monumental. I was thinking back over all the screw-ups I’ve made in my life And I don’t think I ever lost a 286 million dollar satellite. I feel much better about my mistakes after reading this.
The Japanese X-ray telescope Hitomi has been declared lost after it disintegrated in orbit, torn apart when spinning out of control. The cause is still under investigation but early analysis points to bad data in a software package pushed shortly after an instrument probe was extended from the rear of the satellite.
