Yes- The Nigerians are getting a little more creative these days. I just received a wedding photography request from someone identifying himself as David Bakke from Andover Massachusetts. Because the request came through the contact form on my web site, his IP address was recorded at the bottom of the email. Curiosity and better judgment were at odds with each other but I decided to reply and see what happened. I told him my fee for photographing his daughters wedding would be $1800 plus air fare from Austin-Bergstrom Airport to Massachusetts, expenses for meals, 2 nights lodging, car rental, etc., etc., plus $400 for lost production time in traveling to and from there. I would need a $600 deposit to “hold the date”. His response came in about 10 minutes. He wanted to hire me. Oh but there was one small problem. His in-laws had left him only one signed check for $2800 to pay for the photographer, and wedding planner and had just left the country on a long trip. He wants to send the check to me and have me deduct my $600 deposit and wire the rest to the planner so she can start planning their wedding. Give me a break guys. I find it unbeleivable that anyone would fall for this as long as it’s been around but I guess it’s still happening
